In Frozen Essence we play the role of Mina, a person with a strange set of powers that wasn't understood by her people, and thus ended up being locked in the crystal prison. However, at some point the prison started to break and she was saved by the Oracle, which in this case is a very wise person that never shows his face as we play. She gets back to her family and friends, but at some point the plot thickens.
Mina will need to try and save the Oracle which seems that is in need of dire help at all costs. In order to save the oracle, she will have to go through a large number of quests, help tons of other people and also survive the cold, harsh world she is now a part of.
As you can see, Frozen Essence brings an exciting premise and a wide range of interesting visuals. It's based on Ren'Pi, which is the standard in visual novel creation, so it does manage to look rather interesting and intriguing at the same time. In Frozen Essence you can find more than 12 different endings, so the title does encourage replayability quite a lot. It also manages to provide lots of incentives as well, because the more you play, the interesting the story will get.
Alongside the good visuals, Frozen Essence also provides an original soundtrack that doesn't impress that much, but which is more than enough to make you play through the title and enjoy it, which is more than ok.
Depending on the path you take, you can spend up to an hour per path, which, combined with the number of endings, can keep you anywhere from 6-10 hours or even more, depending on how much of a completions you actually are. We were surprised to see that there are 4 main guys to choose from and a hidden character, but this does manage to add a lot of charisma and charm to the game, something that we found to be pretty cool and exciting.
Frozen Essence isn't a very demanding game, pretty much like most visual novels, but it does manage to provide a great story, a bunch of interesting characters as well as a ton of other new additions too. It's a great title, one that offers you a variety of new challenges and a cute story to boost. Just check it out, it's a game well worth trying out!
