The Tomb Raider series has been around for more close to two decades now and in all this time we had the opportunity to go along with Lara Croft in some of the most daring, intricate and fun adventures yet. This is the exact same feeling that we will get when playing Tomb Raider Anniversary, a title that tries to provide a comeback to the first game in the series.
The main story in Tomb Raider Anniversary relies around the Scion, a very powerful artifact which is targeted by multiple organizations from all over the world. Lara is hired by one of those particular organizations and her main purpose is to get the artifact then hand it to the highest bidder. However, as you would expect, many things weren't mentioned at all, and the whole artifact retrieval is a part of a much bigger plot that Lara will have the opportunity to unfold as you go through the game.
Tomb Raider Anniversary is a combination of platform and adventure game at hear, so as you explore Egypt, Peru and Greece you will have to take full advantage of her natural platforming abilities in order to reach the high ground. As expected, the whole game world is built entirely on these gameplay mechanics so we will have tons of opportunities to go through the game, gather artifact and see Lara climb amazingly large hills as she tries to recover the Scion. There are a few bosses in the game, which is something natural for a Tomb Raider title, and they all require different strategies. Not only that, but the enemies in the game have a very good AI, so you will have tons of opportunities to challenge yourself. The game isn't very difficult, but since this is a game where Lara Croft is the main character, we will also have to solve some puzzles that up the ante as far as the difficulty goes.
Expect many interesting challenges as you play the game, as well as numerous quests that might seem impossible at first. All Tomb Raider games, this one included, have been masterfully designed to take advantage of Lara's archeological knowledge and abilities, so you can be sure that Anniversary provides that in spades as well.
The main idea behind the creation of Tomb Raider Anniversary is that the title should be somewhat of a HD version of the first Tomb Raider title. A higher quality, better character design and some small improvements can be found all over the game's massive world, and exploring the game is just a blast because of that. You can expect to have a lot of fun with the game, especially if you played the first game in the series. Even if you are a newcomer, you will definitely have a ton of fun as you get to explore a massive game world filled with threats, corruption and, of course, ancient artifacts.
Tomb Raider Anniversary might not be the biggest or the best game in the series, but it provides a solid recreation of the first Tomb Raider game. It has amazing graphics, some huge game worlds, lots of content and another excuse to step into Lara's shoes to explore tombs, caverns and pyramids in search for ancient artifacts.
